The Gaming Giant Recruits Apex Legends Developer to Revitalize Struggling Hero Shooter Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Transition Follows Poor Response

Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming unveiling last fall.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified staff about this organizational change through an internal memo, which emphasized that playtesting had revealed the necessity for a more defined vision.

Ismailer stated that the team is now reimagining the project with a revised approach, aiming to better meet gamer demands.

Trend of Key Hires

This announcement mirrors a similar action taken by the publisher in August, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the beloved franchise development group.

Below is the complete message from Ismailer's announcement:

Dear Team—

I know you all just wrapped up your gathering - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most driven and innovative creators we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to persist.”

With your dedication and versatility, particularly over the last year, you repeatedly show that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s the game demo was revealing. It confirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the need for a more distinct vision.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the input to mind and reimagined Project ETHOS with a refreshed vision - one that’s poised to fulfill its potential to our audience.

The belief in this project increases every day. To further the remarkable progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Studio Head of the team. Following a period of talks, he comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.

His management and experience in the PVP shooter genre is vast, having dedicated the last 15 years producing and managing some of the most well-known franchises in the industry, including the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

Please join me in welcoming him in the coming days. We are all excited to keep witnessing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the time to come.

The President
